You need to be a member of the Toonowrimo community to see the post which has the location and password for the war room. That post is located here.
Originally created as a NaNoWriMo community for mizkit's ease in harrassing the Wrimos she knows into doing their words, toonowrimo has become the focal point for daily word wars.
A word war is where two or more (ideally) writers get together in a chat room and, rather than chat, go off to their separate word processors and write intensively for half an hour. At the end of half an hour, everyone returns, reports wordcount, takes a quick break, and then does it again.
The point isn't so much to win, although the person with the highest wordcount gets cheered, as it is to make an effort at turning what is essentially a solitary pursuit into a slightly more social activity. It also provides a schedule, which can be very helpful when you don't want to do your damned words. :)
Chatting during the wars is actively discouraged. Typically when someone logs in to the war room, they post a note here in the Toonowrimo community to say "I'm in!" so others know the wars are in session.
